This month’s theme, Your journey, one step at a time, came to me during a recent early‑morning visit to the Victory Steps. I walked those 300 steps for the very first time — three full rounds up and down, gaining 160 feet of vertical incline each time, moving steadily toward the rising sun. It was beautiful. It was challenging. And it was exactly the kind of experience that reminds you how much a single step can teach you.
As I climbed, I watched a small group of people making their own ascent — each person moving at their own pace, each one taking steps toward their personal goals. It struck me how similar this climb is to the journey of life. You start at the bottom, unsure of how steep the path will become, unsure of how long it will take, unsure of how you’ll feel halfway up. But you take that first step anyway. And that first step matters. Who’s Around You Matters — But Who’s With You Matters More On the stairs, your cadence can be influenced by the people around you. Their pace can affect your pace. Their energy can affect your energy. Their presence can shape your sense of safety, your space to move freely, and even your view of the path ahead. But more important than who is around you is who is with you. Who stands in your corner? Who supports you when the incline gets steeper? Who encourages you when you feel you’re reaching your limit? Who celebrates your wins — even the small ones? Who wants to see you succeed, not because it benefits them, but because they genuinely believe in you? And perhaps most importantly: Who stays with you when you want to give up? Who reminds you of your strength when you’ve forgotten it? Who believes in you when your confidence wavers? These are the companions who make the journey possible. One Foot in Front of the Other Whether you’re climbing 300 steps at the Victory Steps or stepping into a new chapter of your life, the process is the same: One foot in front of the other. One breath at a time. One moment of courage followed by another. Every journey requires commitment and grit — but it also requires wisdom. Wisdom to pause. Wisdom to hydrate. Wisdom to nourish. Wisdom to rest without quitting. The path may not be easy, but it is rich with lessons: Lessons about life. Lessons about resilience. Lessons about who you are becoming. What stands in the way becomes the way.” (this means that instead of seeing challenges as roadblocks, you can use them as opportunities to practice virtues like patience, creativity, and resilience) May your steps — all of them — lead you exactly where you’re meant to go.
